As part of a systemic restructuring effort in the entire company, TEST-FUCHS reconceived and modeled one hundred processes that had grown over decades in the FireStart BPM Platform, thus laying the digital foundation for the company’s fledgling automation phase.

From Processes that Took Years to Grow to Workflows Clever as a Fox

Founded more than seventy years ago and based in Groß-Siegharts in Lower Austria, the family-run company TEST-FUCHS has long called aeronautics its home: While this global player is a developer of test equipment required for aircraft maintenance checks, it also manufactures aircraft components such as fuel pumps and lubricating oil pumps for helicopters. More than 600 employees work on developing and building the perfect solutions for their clients daily—from production to completion, all in-house.

TEST-FUCHS is successful in areas that entail an enormous development effort and call for compliance with a plethora of quality norms. For these strict statutory requirements to be met, process quality must always come first in aeronautics. Therefore, TEST-FUCHS documents everything. This is important and the right thing to do. The consequence, however, is that the sheer volume of its quality management system has grown to awe-inspiring proportions since the company’s founding seventy years ago. It has become high time to rethink certain processes, to rearrange them into a clear structure, and thus to support the respective project managers. How did they do that? With the FireStart BPM Platform.

FireStart reconceived one hundred processes, modeled them in the system, and subsequently optimized them. But that was not all: The required documents were integrated in the workflow, and approvals are now also given in the process portal. The platform’s role-based model allows TEST-FUCHS to have an overview of which person is responsible for which step of the workflow. Not only does this provide the current team an overview, it also makes things easier for new employees. For a continuously expanding international company like TEST-FUCHS, human resource growth is always on the agenda.
