Atos and FireStart Digitize Approval Processes at the Austrian Economic Chamber
Innovation Massively Reduces Lead Time by at Least 50 Percent
Like many large enterprises and institutions, the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber deals with approval processes on a daily basis. Thus far, documents were printed out for these purposes, filed in a binder, and given a circulation slip that defined the analog “workflow.” Especially time-sensitive decisions often involved employees searching for a binder and physically carrying it to the next stations. About 6,000 of these binders were in circulation each year—the Austrian Economic Chamber’s goal was to reduce the duration of these approval processes and to improve traceability and documentation. Additionally, interdepartmental cooperation was to be improved and the use of binders and paper made superfluous.
Atos in cooperation with FireStart and HPC Dual implemented a digital signature solution for the Austrian Economic Chamber and its employees, which was able to reduce lead time by at least 50 percent. Elektronischer Mappenlauf (ELMA) is a central platform for all approvals and digital signatures on various documents and contracts within the Austrian Economic Chamber. ELMA is the ideal user surface to sign and approve documents internally. For this purpose, FireStart provides the BPM Business Process Management solution used in workflow realization. The solutions and technologies used here, especially FireStart, are not limited to this one project. They can also be used for digitizing further processes, such as the requirements workflows for IT equipment, user rights, literature—as FireStart’s BPM Suite is ideally suited to modeling processes and automating workflows.
The successful project Elektronischer Mappenlauf (ELMA, Electronic Filing Management), a cooperation with Atos, has led to a massive reduction of process lead time and to more transparency in documentation.
