Frequently Asked Questions – FireStart Process Automation & BPMN 2.0
FireStart is a BPMN 2.0-based Intelligent Process Automation (IPA) platform made in Austria, hosted in Germany (GDPR-compliant). Find answers to the most common questions about features, pricing, integrations, and deployment.
- What is FireStart?
- FireStart is a process orchestration platform from Austria that helps companies automate their workflows across HR, ERP, CRM, and project management tools. The platform connects people, systems, and AI into clear, measurable processes.
- What makes FireStart different from traditional workflow tools?
- Other tools automate isolated tasks. FireStart links these tasks into end-to-end processes – including approvals, forms, and human decisions. The human-in-the-loop approach ensures that people remain involved at critical decision points.
- Who is FireStart suitable for?
- FireStart targets mid-sized companies (Mittelstand) in the DACH region with 50–500 employees that are introducing their first end-to-end workflow engine. The first buyer is often the CFO, because the initial processes are finance- and compliance-driven. Typical users are finance departments, executives, IT managers, operations teams, and process owners who want to digitize workflows without extensive programming knowledge.
- What does "Human in the Loop" mean?
- Human in the Loop means that people remain involved at critical points in the process – for approvals, reviews, or decisions. Unlike fully automated black-box systems, FireStart combines automation with human control and expertise.
- Is FireStart a cloud or on-premise solution?
- FireStart offers three deployment options: Cloud (ready to use immediately, hosted in Germany), On-Premise (installation on your own servers), and Hybrid (combination of both). You choose the solution that fits your security and compliance requirements.
- Is FireStart GDPR-compliant?
- Yes. FireStart is hosted in Germany and meets all GDPR requirements. The platform offers end-to-end encryption, audit trails for all process steps, and role-based access control. Note: FireStart is currently not ISO-certified.
- Which systems can FireStart connect?
- FireStart integrates with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint), SAP, CRM systems (HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive), ERP systems (DATEV, Sage, Xentral, BMD), HR tools (Personio, Workday, BambooHR), SSO/Active Directory, and 600+ additional tools via REST API.
- Do I need developers to use FireStart?
- No – but they can be helpful. FireStart is a no-code/low-code process automation platform designed so business users can model and automate processes without programming knowledge. For more complex requirements, FireStart also lets you integrate custom code, giving developers full freedom to implement special automation logic.
- How does collaboration with FireStart work?
- FireStart offers a structured onboarding service in five steps: kick-off and analysis, process workshop, modeling and setup, training and go-live, and support and optimization. Customers become productive quickly and can then independently implement further automations.
- How quickly do you see results?
- First workflows can go live within days. More complex processes with extensive integrations take a few weeks. FireStart offers a 3-day pilot where you become productive immediately – much faster than traditional BPM systems.
- How does REST API integration work with FireStart?
- FireStart can orchestrate any REST APIs via webhooks and HTTP requests. You define endpoints, parameters, and data flows visually in the process editor, authentication (OAuth, API keys) is managed securely, and you can integrate your own code for special logic.
- Can FireStart work with my existing tools?
- Yes, absolutely. FireStart doesn't replace your existing tools – it connects them. You keep your ERP, CRM, and HR system, and FireStart orchestrates the processes between them – including approvals, forms, and task distribution.
- How is FireStart licensed?
- FireStart offers three packages: Solution Workshop from €490 (one-time), Process Modeling from €390/month, and Full Solution from €830/month. Enterprise licenses are available for more than 25 users. All prices are plus VAT.
- What advantages does FireStart have over multiple individual tools?
- With FireStart you avoid tool sprawl. Instead of maintaining 5-10 separate automation tools, you have one central platform with unified governance, a central audit trail, consistent permissions, and the BPMN 2.0 standard. This saves licensing costs and training effort.
- What happens if systems or processes change?
- FireStart offers professional versioning and change management. Process changes are documented and old versions remain traceable. Thanks to low-code, you can make adjustments yourself without waiting for external developers. Continuous optimization is part of the offering.
